AsSalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh

Alhamdulillah! I am so grateful to have found your site and your beautiful works. My parents reverted to Islam in 1973/4 and having grown up in the Bay Area (East Palo Alto/Oakland), the narratives or reversion, the Nation of Islam and spiritual journeys are everywhere, but at the same time nowhere because there is not one place to locate their richness. As a history geek and art lover/creator I am always intrigued my personal-historical narratives of reversion and identity that are articulated through images. I will be in NY dec 13-20 for my own small and (first!) group exhibit at the brooklyn artist gym and I am really excited to see your work! I stumbled upon your work via carlagirlblog (http://carlagirl.net/blog/blog.html) and just kept saying Alhumdulillah! :) I am amazed by what I am seeing so far and cannot wait to see everything in a few weeks. I do not know if this is asking to much, but I would really appreciate it if I could email you and ask you a few questions about your work and about your background in general. I come across many Black female artists, but not so many Black Muslim artists. I want to pursue art (right now, just digital photography, printmaking, graphic/digital design and i have started making shorts after someone loans me a video camera) more holistically/harmoniously then I am now. Right now, I am a student at Stanford getting my Ed.M and teaching credential, teach 12th grade, freelance write and when I have time I can work with my camera and do some printing. I would love to talk with you just a bit in hopes that you have any insights on creating a more harmonious artistic life if that makes sense. I hope I am not asking to much, and InshaAllah I will hear from you soon.

Jazakhair
